Eyelid lift

Fresh and rejuvenated facial expression

The face is expressive and conveys different moods and feelings through facial expressions. The alert-looking eyes and eyelids have a strong influence on the overall appearance. As we age, the upper and lower eyelids change. Over time, the skin loses its elasticity and vitality due to the decreasing skin elasticity.

The causes of sagging connective tissue in the upper eyelids (drooping eyelids) or protruding fatty tissue in the lower eyelids (bags under the eyes) are mainly age-related and genetic. Corrections to the eyelids may therefore be necessary for cosmetic or medical reasons.

During eyelid surgery, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed to reverse visible signs of aging and restore the natural shape of the eyes and an individual and fresh expression.

During a consultation, PD Dr. Mathias Tremp will provide you with complete information about the procedure, possible complications and the feasibility of the desired eyelid correction.

Upper eyelid lift (drooping eyelids)
Sagging upper eyelids (drooping eyelids) occur when the skin, connective tissue and muscles lose elasticity. During eyelid surgery, excess skin and parts of the fatty tissue are removed from the upper eyelids. An upper eyelid lift makes the eyes appear fresher and emphasizes a rejuvenated, positive appearance.
Lower eyelid lift (bags under the eyes)
Bags under the eyes (fat protrusions on the lower eyelid) form due to the loss of elasticity of the deeper tissue layers, which leads to protrusion of the eye fat. The lower eyelid lift (lower blepharoplasty) removes and/or redistributes excess fatty tissue. The removal of skin is kept to a minimum to avoid distortion of the lower eyelid. The lower eyelid lift creates a fresher appearance.
Intervention, ability to work, risks and aftercare
An eyelid lift is performed on an outpatient basis with light anesthesia or under local anesthesia. The excess skin and the fatty tissue that is often annoying in the inner corner of the eye are removed during the procedure. Vision is restored immediately and there is usually no pain. The swelling and discoloration of the operated eyelid or eye area subsides within 7 to 14 days. Daily cooling and elevating the upper body reduce the discomfort and swelling. Eye drops are administered regularly to keep the eye moist. The tapes and stitches are removed 5 to 7 days after the operation. Subsequent skin and scar care as well as sun protection are very important for further scar healing.
