Sagging breasts

Sagging breasts

Firm and full breasts have always been a symbol of femininity. Many women want to live up to the beauty ideal Firm and full breasts have always been a symbol of femininity. Many women want to live up to the ideal of beauty and dream of having breasts that are as natural and feminine as possible.

Sagging breasts are much more common than the ideal firm bust, which can affect a woman’s well-being differently. Depending on the degree of sagging breasts, proven methods are suitable for tightening the breasts.

When do we start talking about sagging breasts?

A slightly sagging bosom is natural. However, if the breast tissue including the atrium/nipple complex increasingly shifts towards the navel, so-called sagging breasts (mastoptosis) are diagnosed.

Depending on how much the sagging breasts have sunk, there are four degrees of severity.

No sagging chest (grade 0):

Here the breast is normally shaped. The centre of the nipple is above the crease of the underbust. The nipples can also point upwards.

Slight sagging chest (grade 1):

Here lies the centre of the

In this case, the centre of the nipple is a little below or at the same level as the crease under the breast. This is the most common form of sagging breasts.

A breast implant is usually sufficient to lift the breast.

Optionally, the slight sagging of the breast is corrected with the Dual Plane technique.

Moderate pendulous chest (Grade 2):

In a moderate sagging breast, the centre of the nipple is found about 1 to 3 cm below the underbust crease.

With a larger bust size, the nipples may point downwards. The sagging of the breast can be corrected with a Dual Plane technique grade 2-3.

Alternatively, an external breast lift around the atrium (Benelli method) can be used.

Strong sagging chest (grade 3):

In the most pronounced form of sagging breasts, the centre of the nipple is more than 3 cm below the crease under the breast.

Now, even with small breasts, the nipples can point downwards. A vertical incision is often necessary here with possible extension into the underbust fold (Lejour technique or anchor incision (Strömbeck method).

Development of pendulous breasts?

It is quite normal that the female breast does not always have the same shape and size throughout life. Sagging breasts can develop in young women as early as puberty.

Far more often, pregnancy or major weight fluctuations are causes of sagging breasts. Genetic predispositions and ageing also influence the firmness of the breasts.

Empty and sagging breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding?

During pregnancy, the female body is increasingly prepared for the event of birth and the subsequent breastfeeding period. The hormones oestrogen, progesterone and oxytocin are responsible for this.

Already in the first weeks of pregnancy, the breasts enlarge due to milk production. They can grow so much that they eventually add up to three cup sizes. The breasts enlarge again when the milk comes in a few days after the birth.

As soon as the baby is no longer breastfed and milk production has ceased, the breasts begin to shrink. The larger glandular tissue of the breast is no longer needed from this point on. Because the breast loses a lot of volume, the connective tissue slackens considerably. This can result in sagging breasts.

Sagging breasts at an advanced age?

As a woman ages, the body produces less oestrogen. During menopause, more fat is stored in the breasts. This can lead to increased breast growth. The increased breast weight can make the previously smaller breasts sag.

Sagging breasts after weight loss?

Sagging breasts can occur with strong weight fluctuations or after weight loss. If the breasts were used to increased body weight for years, the skin is stretched and saggy accordingly.

If the breasts become slimmer, the skin and connective tissue may not be able to recede sufficiently. However, the elasticity of the skin varies from individual to individual. After weight loss, this leaves excess skin behind and the nipples are pulled down.

Methods for the treatment of sagging breasts?

Beautiful breasts can influence a woman’s psychological and physical well-being. Sagging breasts and weak connective tissue can therefore be extremely stressful for those affected. Even sports bras cannot prevent certain women from developing sagging breasts.

There are various surgical methods to regain a firmer breast. If the sagging breast is so pronounced that it interferes with personal lifestyle, surgery is advisable.

In the case of sagging breasts, the methods of breast augmentation and plastic aesthetic breast lift are the most suitable. The most appropriate procedure depends on the size of the breast, the degree of sagging and the patient’s wishes.

The costs for an aesthetic breast augmentation or breast lift must be borne by the patient. The optimal method and the costs incurred are discussed in a consultation.

Breast enlargement for sagging breasts?

Breast augmentation is one of the most common surgical procedures in plastic surgery worldwide. Slightly sagging breasts can be tightened by inserting implants made of silicone. Breast augmentation makes the breast shape more harmonious again.

As a result, the breast shape and size are in harmony with the rest of the body’s proportions.

Breast augmentation takes place under general anaesthesia and lasts 1 to a maximum of 2 hours. Before the surgical procedure, the patient is informed in a consultation. During the consultation, the methods and possible risks are explained in detail.

After a detailed examination, the implant size and shape, as well as the incision technique and placement are selected.
